Believing without belonging - Note

Charles Taylor in ‘A Secular Age’ describes an emerging kind of belief -known as ‘believing without belonging’ as Grace Davie coined, or ‘nominalism- through a ‘penumbra’ effect. Although such believers are nominally Jewish, Christian, Muslim and so on, but they take a minimalistic approach to religion/faith and do not employ religious values, morality, and responsibility in their life beyond limited and occasional commitments to religious, social rituals. This diffused belief, however, plays a significant role in society if religion is being considered as ‘social glue.’

ویتگنشتاین و دین طبیعی (ترگویه)

آنچه پیش روی شماست، تلاشی است برای بازگرداندن نوشته‌ای کوتاه از زبان انگلیسی به فارسی درباره‌ی «فلسفه‌ی دین» نوشته‌ی گوردن گراهام[1]، استاد فلسفه و هنر در مدرسه‌ی علوم دینی پرینستون. این ترگویه در سایت «دین آنلاین» در تاریخ سه‌شنبه، 21 مهر 1394 نیز منتشر شده است.

 

ویتگنشتاین و دین طبیعی[2]

در فلسفه‌ی دین، «ویتگنشتاین‌ایسم»[3] موضعی مشخص است که طرح اصلی آن کم و بیش مورد پذیرش هر دو گروهِ موافقان و مخالفان است. مدافعان «ویتگنشتاین‌ایسم» با یادآوری چند مفهوم که ویتگنشتاین آن‌ها را مطرح نموده است، همچون «بازی‌های زبانی»[4]، «شیوه‌های زندگی»[5]، «باور‌هایِ بی‌دلیل»[6]، «دستورِ زبانِ عمقی»[7] و «جهان-تصویر‌ها»[8]، در پی آن بودند تا با «کاملاً بی‌ربط» نشان دادنِ انتقاداتِ عُقلایی وارد شده به دین، آن‌ها را دفع نمایند. اما مخالفان، با استفاده از همین مفاهیم، ادعا می‌نمایند که دین دور از دسترس کنکاش‌های عقلی قرار گرفته است و نسبت به موشکافی‌های نقّادانه مصونیت یافته است.
